TESTO DEL LIED

"The winter is gone"
di Volkslieder (Folksongs)

The winter is gone and the summer is come,
The meadows are pleasant and gay,
The lark in the morning so sweetly she sings,
And sweet smells the blossom of May.
Young Johnny the ploughboy comes whistling along
With his horses, to follow the plough;
The blackbirds and thrushes sing in the green bush,
And the dairy maid milking her cow.
He took the fair maid by her lily white hand,
On the green bushy bank they sat down;
Then he placèd a kiss on her sweet ruby lips,
A tree spread its branches around.
It was early next morning he made her his bride,
Their vows in the church for to pay.
So bells they did ring, and the bride she did sing,
As he crowned her the Queen of the May.
