Julius Kniese, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Roda on the 21 December 1848, the same year of the composers Allitsen, Dell'Orefice, Duparc, Giró, Gleason, Goldschmidt, Horner, Kistler, Mancinelli, McCoy, Pembaur, Planquette, Puchalsky, Puget, Rice, Schröder, Schytte. He died in Dresda on the 22nd April 1905
