José Maria Ponce de León, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Bogotá on the 16th February 1846, the same year of the composers Alferaki, Brüll, Cahen, Chueca, Coquard, Denza, Drigo, Erkel, Gomes de Araújo, Hallén, Jarecki, Kleinmichel, Lenormand, Noskowski, Pratt, Serpette, Soloviev, Tyrrell, Valverde. He died in Bogotá on the 21 September 1882
