Leopoldo (Américo) Miguez, who wrote music for orchestra, chamber and vocal music, was born in Niterói on the 9th September 1850, the same year of the composers Brandts Buys, Bretón y Hernández, Fanciulli, Faning, Fibich, Georges, Heuberger, Jordan, Keil, Komzák, Lange-Müller, Luigini, Meyer-Olbersleben, Olsen, Scharwenka, Scontrino, Serrano y Ruiz, Simon, Taneyev, Thomas, Thomé, Toulmouche, Urspruch. He died in Rio de Janeiro on the 6th July 1902
